Keyword Density

Keyword density is the number of times a keyword or phrase appears on your web page compared to the total number of words measured in percentage. Keyword density can be used as a factor in determining whether a web page is relevant to a specified keyword or keyword phrase in the world of search engine optimization.

To rank well for a specific phrase or word that word should appear multiple times on your page. If it's the key focus of your business it should be somewhere in your domain name. In my case a great domain name would be montano-designs-joomla-websites.com However, that's not a great domain name for people to type but you get the gist. Other ways to show the search engine spiders what your site is about is to use your keywords in links to other pages in your site, titles of pages and alternate descriptions for images on your site.

How to do this in Joomla:

  • In the global settings add your primary key phrase to the title of your site.
  • Add the phrase in the meta description tag in sentence form and in the meta keywords box.
  • Create a page discussing that primary phrase and use the phrase in title.
  • Link to the newly created page from one of your main menus.
  • Link to the page if the phrase is used in the body of an article.

Be Specific:

You'll get better results if you focus in on phrases as opposed to individual words. For example, if you sell kitchen cabinets tell what kind and where. If you just use the single word cabinets you'll be competing with companies who sell medicine cabinets, file cabinets, television cabinets, etc... The search results will be diluted. If you offer your services only to a specific location include the location in your optimized keyphrase. (ex. Charlotte kitchen cabinets) This is especially important if your paying for an ad campaign. You won't want to pay for someone in Alaska to click your ad if you don't offer your product to their region.

Be Aware:

Search engine spiders are onto black hat SEO and keyword stuffing. Honesty is the best policy when it comes to SEO. Tell people what you offer and what your site is about keeping in mind that your also speaking to a machine. Write your text to appeal to potential clients and the spiders. This will require you to be very creative. If copy writing is not your strong suit, I HIGHLY recommend hiring a professional copy writer like http://copykella.net
